The Fox and Newt public house on Burley Street (opposite Park Lane College) played host to a month long exhibition by local born international artist Martin Trippett (46).

Trippett’s recent works include the ‘Westplien Memorial statue’ in Utrecht Netherlands (2005) and the ‘RV Blazek Seat of Love’ in Prague (2006). His latest piece featured in the Find Art exhibition at Leeds Met last June included a 7 foot diameter Moon created by animating photographs of the ‘Rue de la Lune’ in Paris and projecting it onto a huge hemispherical screen.

The exhibition opened on the 18th of October 2006 comprising a collection of paintings and drawings completed during the creation of his last 3 projects. It was complimented by an online presentation of the artists’s portfolio andpodcasts.

To quote the artist, “ With my work people only ever see the finished piece, to me the paintings and drawings are experiments, they are where the ideas come from and as such are as important as the final product. I was looking for an opportunity to display them in an atmosphere where people could relax and view them at their leisure away from the normal gallery surroundings, so when landlord Jim Ravenwolf of the Fox and Newt’ offered me his pub to show the work it seemed the ideal solution.”

The exhibition was open until November 14th 2006.

A5 Prints priced from £20:00.

Original works priced upon application.

The Fox and Newt also featured a new micro brewery and Wireless Internet access making it plausible for the gallery visitor to imbibe fine real ales, browse the artist’s site and arrange purchase of Martin Trippet’s works in exhibition or online catalogue to date.
